During May 2021, The Walronds garden had a spectacular transformation from willow sculpture and artist Vik Westaway. The garden was turned into a Willow Sculpture trail, featuring willow animals that had been hidden amongst the trees and flowers for the local community to find. The beautiful willow animals created by Vik, represent all of the wildlife there is to spot in our local area of Cullompton.

Our official launch of the trail took place on the 22nd May 2021. To launch The Walronds Willow Wander Trail, we had the pleasure of celebrating in style with Crooked Tempo Samba Band, Higher Beings stilt walkers and Elfic the Juggler and Jester. We also hosted a ‘make your own bird feeder’ workshop where children made their own bird feeders out of willow –  a project to support local wildlife and the surrounding nature.

In the midst of a pandemic, with restrictions eased to allow us to gather in groups, it was the first live entertainment event in Cullompton of the year.

The event was funded by the Mid Devon ‘Love Your Town Centre’ Fund with the aim of encouraging people back into the town centre to enjoy local produce and small businesses.

The willow sculptures have been kept in the gardens for all to enjoy. Pick up a Willow Trail sheet from The Walronds and see if you can spot all of the animals, the hedgehog is proving to be the hardest to spot!
